Disability License
Any resident may obtain a disabled Hunting/Freshwater/Saltwater fishing license at no cost
upon presenting proof of residency and eligibility. Proof of disability may be presented in the
form of one of the following:
- A letter of certification stating the individual has a total and permanent disability
from either the United States Veterans Administration or any branch of the United
States Armed Forces.
- A valid veteran's identification card issued by the State of Florida Division of
Veteran's Affairs which states the veteran is 100% service connected, permanently
and totally disabled.
- Documentation of current eligibility for disability benefits from the Social Security
Administration.
- A letter of certification stating the applicant is totally and permanenty disabled from
the Railroad Retirement Board.
- A resident of Florida who is certified to be totally and permanently disabled for worker's
compensation as verified by an order of a judge of compensation claims or written
confirmation by the carrier providing the worker's compensation benefits.
This license also exempts the holder from permit requirements and from making application for most
quota hunt permits to hunt in a wildlife management area. It does not allow for the privileges permitted by commercial
fishing license, commercial or state trapping licenses, antlerless deer permits or the federal duck stamp. (Hunter
Education Safety Certificate is required on individuals born after June 1, 1975.)
Licenses that are issued with the eligibility documentation from the Social Security Administration are valid
for a period of two years from date of issuance. Licenses that are issued with eligibility documentation from the
United States Veterans Administration, United States Armed Forces, the State of Florida Division of Veteran's Affairs,
Railroad Retirement Board or Florida Worker's Compensation are valid for a period of five years from date of issuance.
Applications can be obtained online
or from the tax collector's office. The completed application and required documentation may be returned to the tax
collector's office for submission to the state or may be mailed directly to the state by the applicant. Once processed,
the state will mail the license to the applicant.
