Lee County Kids Tag Art

by Zach Lunsford | Feb 09, 2018

Lee County Kids Tag Art is an educational fundraising project designed to benefit the art classrooms in Lee County District Schools. The Tax Collector’s Office, in partnership with The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools, offers the program annually to participating elementary school’s fifth-grade students.

The Lee County Kids Tag Art program is not only designed to teach children how art is used in commerce but it allows teachers to challenge their art students to learn through creativity. More than 5,000 fifth-grade students within 49 Lee County public schools have the opportunity to create a design that will become their very own front-end decorative license plate!

Here's how it works:

  • Fifth-graders create their unique design on the student template provided
  • Teachers select five finalists from each school for judging by a panel of art jurors.
  • Two winners are selected from each school for an “Award of Distinction” designation.
  • Elite sponsors and above have the opportunity to select a theme. The winning design of their choice will bear their company logo and be offered for public sale.
  • Every student has the opportunity to have their art on a license plate! Packages are available for purchase for friends and family.
  • “Award of Distinction” plates are displayed through the Lee County Tax Collector website and available for public purchase.
  • A large traveling collection of student tag art is showcased and offered for sale at community events by the Tax Collector’s office.

All of the proceeds collected from public sales and community sponsorships benefit the 49 participating Lee County elementary school’s art programs. Funds will help cover much-needed classroom supplies and will be awarded at the annual Award of Distinction Ceremony held in March. The Kids Tag Art program has raised more than $40,000 in sponsorships this year and the goal is to return $800 to each participating school!
