Don’t Get Stopped By The Stops On Your Registration!

by Angie Filian | Jan 31, 2019

Are you trying to renew your registration but find yourself in a situation where you can’t? That might be due to a stop on your registration. If there are any stops on your record, you will not be able to renew your registration until the stops are cleared. Now, you might be asking yourself, “what is a stop on my registration and how did I get it?” Well, there are actually several types of stops that can affect your registration.

Below are some of the more common stops that can affect your vehicle registration:

  • Failure to pay fines – This could include court costs, traffic fines or any other fines paid to the Clerk of Courts. All fines must be paid in the county that the fine was issued in order for the stop on your registration to be cleared.
  • Department of Revenue (DOR) Delinquent Support Stop – This stop is typically placed by the Department of Revenue for child support delinquency. So, if you haven’t made your child support payments on time or have failed to pay them at all, you can receive a stop on your registration.
  • Dishonored checks – This stop is generated when a check is returned by your financial institution or if there are not enough funds in your account to cover the payment.
  • Wrecker Operator Liens – A wrecker operator or towing company may claim a special type of tow lien called a wrecker operator lien for recovery, towing and storage of an abandoned vehicle.
  • Repossession Liens – This stop is typically submitted by a lienholder for failed repossession attempts.
  • Toll violations and parking tickets - A registration stop can be due to any toll violations or unpaid parking tickets. Avoid getting a stop on your registration by paying your tolls and parking tickets!
