Per a bulletin from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, starting tomorrow, December 16, 2025, the Lee County Tax Collector will no longer be allowed to accept paper medical examiner certificates for Commercial Driver License (CDL) and Commercial Learner Permits (CLP).
If you are applying for or renewing a CDL or CLP, your healthcare provider must electronically submit a valid medical certification.
This change comes from a rule issued in June 2025 by the US Department of Transportation. States had until January 10, 2026 to implement the rule. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles sent the information to Tax Collectors today.
Below is a fact sheet about the new rule. For more information you can visit the NRII Learning Center.
