Class E Driver License Road Testing has reopened at the
North Fort Myers Service Center
Testing will be held by appointment only
and is open to Lee County residents.

Document and Vehicle Inspection Requirements


Road tests are provided by appointment to Lee County residents only. Verification is required, tester must provide mail with their name and Lee County address or already have established a Lee County address in our records.

  • Tester must provide the vehicle for the road test in good working condition.
  • Tester must have an accompanying licensed driver 21 years or older in the seat closest to the driver in the vehicle.
  • The accompanying driver may not be a driving school instructor.
  • Tester can have an interpreter; however, the interpreter must be a licensed driver 21 years or older. (No more than two people will be allowed in the vehicle during testing; the tester and licensed driver/interpreter)
  • Only one appointment per customer per day for road test.
  • Arrive 15 minutes prior to scheduled appointment time or your appointment may be rescheduled.
  • Road tests are given at the North Fort Myers Service Center: 15201 N. Cleveland Ave. N Fort Myers, FL 33903.
  • Please read the driving test instruction sheet prior to your appointment.

Medical extended driving tests, five-day, 3n3 driving test are postponed at this time & will be available at a later date.  This type of road test CANNOT be performed at a third-party provider.



All testers must provide proof of legal presence for driver license issuance.  Please refer to our website driver license section for more information on required documents needed by clicking here:

You must bring all the below documents into the office for the vehicle you are using. 

  • Current Florida or out of state registration (Not expired or future date)
  • Current Florida or out of state insurance to include PIP and PDL coverage (Not expired or future date)
  • If applicable rental agreement

All inspection requirements below apply. If all requirements are not met, your appointment will be rescheduled.

  • Horn must be heard from 200 feet
  • Directional signals
  • Knowledge of hand signals (if directional signals are not working)
  • Two (2) brake lights must work
  • Headlights
  • Doors must open from the inside and outside
  • Driver and passenger window must work
  • Emergency break must work
  • Clean vehicle
  • Tires must be in good working condition (cannot be worn)
  • Windshield wipers must work if raining
  • Gas gauge cannot display (E) empty


Road test skill exams can also be taken through a third party driving school. APA Driving School (239-243-9422) and Ault’s Driver Education Center (941-474-5125) are local providers in Lee County. Please refer to the DHSMV website for a list of all providers.
